Mug Blue, also known as Painting Moomins. The mug was manufactured from 1990 to 1996. One of the images is from the logo still seen on the bottom of the mugs, in the bottom stamp of Arabia Moomin products. The other images are from Tove Jansson’s comic strip #20 Moomin under Sail, novel Moominpappa at Sea, as well as from Lars Jansson’s comic strip #31 Artists in Moomin Valley. The images were arranged by Tove Slotte. The mug presents Moominpappa and Moomintroll painting passionately. Colouring experiments were made on the first three mugs. They tried burnt pigments with three different tones, of which only one was chosen for production. Mug Green, Mug Blue and Mug Rose were all launched at the same time in 1990. "I feel the light yellow and the blue mugs are more balanced than the comic strip mugs. I believe the consumers agreed with me, as the production of the comic strip mugs was discontinued after just a couple of years, and similar designs haven't been made since", says Tove Slotte.
