Characters

The Hobgoblin

The Hobgoblin

The mystical Hobgoblin lives on the top of a mountain, in a house without a roof, filled with jewels. In the evenings he rides his black flying panther, looking for valuable rubies. Hobgoblin is obsessed with finding the King’s Ruby, and it is something he wants above all else. In the beginning the Moomin family was quite afraid of Hobgoblin, but eventually they became friends. With his magical powers Hobgoblin is able to transform into anything he wants, but he usually shows up as a bearded older gentleman, with a cape, a top hat and a pair of white gloves. Hobgoblin appears in Tove Jansson’s novel Finn Family Moomintroll.
