This mug was launched on Tove Jansson’s birthday, and it received much attention. The original images of a sunset are originally from a poster made exclusively for Associated Newspapers in 1955. The image represents the island Tove Jansson and her brother Lars bought in Pellinki, close to Porvoo. The characters in the mug are originally from Tove Jansson’s novel Moominland Midwinter. The design was created by Tove Slotte. This special mug was only sold in selected Iittala stores, in the Finnish Moomin Shops and in moomin.com online store. What makes this mug so special is that it was only sold for one single day. It was sold out on the day of the release, and in spite of it being in high demand, a new batch was never manufactured.

Who designs the illustrations for the Moomin mugs?
Tove Slotte, born in 1957, is a Finnish artist and a graphic designer. She is a professional ceramist. Tove Slotte worked at Arabia from 1985 to 1990, after which she has worked as a freelance designer. She is best known for designing and illustrating the Moomin products for Iittala and Arabia ceramics. Tove Slotte has been a Moomin fan since her childhood. She says her favourite Moomin book is The Book about Moomin, Mymble and Little My. Tove Slotte has designed the Moomin products for Arabia for more than 30 years.
