Between 1956 and 1963, ceramics artist Leo Tykkyläinen made approximately 15,000 Moomin figurines of ten different Moomin characters in his workshop. There are several color variations for each character, and the size of the figurines varies slightly. Every figurine is unique. Leo Tykkyläinen was a ceramics artist, famous for making Moomin figurines to be sold in the Stockmann department store in Helsinki from the late 1950s to the early 60s. In 1964 Tykkyläinen started working at Arabia's factory, and the manufacturing rights of the figurines were transferred to Arabia at the same time.

Arabia perustettiin vuonna 1873 ruotsalaisen Rörstrandin suomalaiseksi tytäryhtiöksi. Vuonna 1916 yhtiön omistajuus siirtyi Suomeen. Vuodesta 1947 vuoteen 1990 Arabian omisti Wärtsilä Oy, jonka jälkeen vuoteen 2007 asti Arabian omisti Hackmann. Vuodesta 2007 Arabia on ollut Fiskarsin omistuksessa. Fiskars lopetti keramiikan valmistuksen Suomessa vuonna 2016, jonka jälkeen kaikki Arabia-brändin astiat on valmistettu ulkomailla.

Between 1956 and 1963, ceramics artist Leo Tykkyläinen made approximately 15,000 Moomin figurines of ten different Moomin characters in his workshop in Maunula, Helsinki. In 1964 Tykkyläinen started working at Arabia's factory, and the manufacturing rights of the figurines were transferred to Arabia at the same time.

Moomintroll is a lovable and happy creature, and he longs for adventure. He is always at the heart of the event. He cares for his friends very much, and wants everyone around him to be happy. Just like the other Moomins, Moomintroll loves the sea. Moomintroll is a great combination of his parents: He is brave and adventurous like Moominpappa, as well as kind and compassionate like Moominmamma. The best place in the world for Moomintroll is Moominvalley, and he never fails to find an adventure. His fearlessness and longing for adventure sometimes carry him out of the Valley. Moomintroll is a roundish character, and he has a tussle at the end of his tail. In spite of his young age, Moomintroll has experienced the highs and lows of romance with his girlfriend Snorkmaiden. Moomintroll first appeared in Tove Jansson’s novel The Moomins and the Great Flood.
